LEGO Ad Campaign

No, I was not hired by LEGO to develop these online and print advertisements, this was a student project (though that would have made an interesting story). The goal of this project was to design an ad campaign for a specific line of LEGO products using my own illustrations/photography. Importantly, we were to create a concept that carries through many settings: online, bus stop, poster, the works!

The Process

The process for this project was comprehensive, but well worth the effort. I began with lots of research, looking at LEGO competitors and their campaigns, past campaigns, and demographic research. You would think LEGO would only create for children, but some of their products are aimed at adults who want to join in on the fun too!

When the research phase was done, I created moodboards and several sets of rough and refined sketches with 3 different themes: construction, growth, and renewal. Of these, I chose construction to highlight the fun of assembling a LEGO set from instructions, something which was appealing to an adult audience.

Once the theme was decided, I developed the refined sketches into illustrations and brought in promotional text from LEGO’s website and their logo (though the slogan is my own work). After listening to feedback and making revisions, the project is in the state shown in the section above!
