Science Quiz for Students
Having been in their small shoes before, I understand what it’s like being a bored, frustrated kid packed in a classroom like a sardine left to marinate in stagnant lectures. This project is a prototype for an interactive quiz for elementary kids who are bored and have trouble with science class.
Its goal was to capture their interest, help them study a subject that is often hard to understand, and to offer support to teachers and guardians. Parents may be busy with work, or don't know how to supplement material, while teachers have only so many resources at their disposal.
The Process
This project began with creating a concept of what kind of person would want or need this quiz, what their needs were, and why they weren’t being met. I then created a site map to contextualize where the quiz would be hosted, and what basic steps students would take to go through the quiz.
Using this outline, I sketched two different concepts adapted for either desktop or mobile devices. Before moving forward with development, I researched what middle school kids would actually be learning in class, and went through Ontario’s STEM curriculum for grades 6, 7, and 8, and then wrote questions and answers with this in mind.
The next step was to create a rough draft of the prototype, and then to develop a style board for the final version. This is where my vision for the project crystallized. I wanted the quiz to be engaging, so I created an illustration for the quiz background that would update with every screen change. I wanted it to feel like a journey through space to reflect the student’s progress. The final steps were to create two prototypes, one for mobile and one for desktop.
